SNAP, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, is the nation’s leading food assistance & nutrition program. It aids Americans living near the poverty level with financial assistance to purchase food. The SNAP program in Idaho goes by the name Idaho Food Stamps. The Idaho Health & Welfare Department administers the Idaho Food Stamps program. Idaho Food Stamps (SNAP) is classified as one of their Self-Reliance Programs and is a tool to their mission to “promote stable, healthy families by helping Idahoans meet basic needs and gain financial and health stability” (2015-2016, Facts, Figures, and Trends Report).
